Draeger’s – Celebrating Family and Food Since 1925

Founded in 1925 by Gustave Draeger, Draeger’s Supermarkets has grown from its humble beginning as a gourmet delicatessen and liquor store in San Francisco to an expanding network of stores with locations in San Mateo, Menlo Park, Los Altos and soon, Danville. One thing that hasn’t changed through the years, however, is our family approach to the food business. With the third generation at the helm, the Draeger family continues to pass on the unique benefits of family ownership to customers.

 

From Our Family To Yours

By staying relatively small and maintaining family ownership, Draeger’s has been able to sustain long-standing, personal relationships with the highest quality local growers and producers. Unlike larger grocery chains that only buy from high-volume, national suppliers, Draeger’s is uniquely able to pick and choose products based on quality. It’s no wonder then that our stores are constantly recognized for offering the finest, “top of season”, newly picked fruits and vegetables, freshest “off-the-boat” fish and highest quality meats, among other things.

Family ownership is also front and center throughout our specialty departments. Our deli and bakeries offer new, at-home tested recipes alongside 80-year-old family secrets that have withstood the test of time. Our wine department will arguably be the most extensive in the East Bay, with over 2,500 top quality wines to choose from, some of which are on allocation and can’t be procured anywhere else. Finally, if it’s cheese you’re looking for, we have over 300 to choose from – not only popular international and domestic brands, but exclusive varieties from local suppliers.

It is this heritage of excellence that attracts celebrity chefs to teach at our cooking school. And because we are a family, we understand the unique needs of your family. We therefore offer an extensive line of grocery and deli items intended to satisfy the dietary and culinary needs of a broad range of customers – from gluten-free and sugar-free foods to organic and dairy-free items, Draeger’s delivers food and quality for all to enjoy.

Our delicatessen offers an extensive line of prepared foods that can simply be taken off the shelf and placed in your oven for an immediate, healthy, family-style dinner. We even cook your Thanksgiving turkey and stuffing (but don’t worry -- your secret is safe with us)!
